Our Pasture Raised Organic Soy & Corn-free hens are raised on small family farms in Lancaster County and the surrounding area with real outdoor access and plenty of space to do what hens are built to do: roam, forage, and move through a varied landscape at their own pace.
The farms our hens live on aren’t flat, uniform fields. They have wide open pasture with fresh grass, areas of tall grass and natural brush, and trees that give the hens shade and a sense of being somewhere wild. It’s genuinely close to what free-living looks like, with the added comfort of a safe barn to come back to.
That outdoor life shapes the egg. The foraging, the variety of plants and insects, the space to move: all of it contributes to the deeper golden yolk and the fuller flavor that pasture raised eggs are known for. Removing soy and corn from the supplemental feed is a meaningful step. But it’s the pasture access underneath it that makes the whole system work.
Pasture Raised Organic Soy & Corn-free eggs are a nutritionally excellent food, shaped by both the outdoor life our hens live and the intentional feed system behind them.
- Protein: About 6 grams per egg. A complete protein, with all nine essential amino acids.
- Omega-3 fatty acids: Higher than in conventional eggs, thanks to the varied outdoor diet. Hens with genuine pasture access and natural foraging produce eggs with more omega-3s than hens raised on grain alone. We do not target specific omega-3 enrichment in our feed; the levels come naturally from how our hens live.
- Fat-soluble vitamins: A, D, E, and K, all at higher levels than in conventional eggs. These concentrate in the yolk and come largely from the varied outdoor diet.
- Choline: A good source. Choline supports brain health, liver function, and fetal development, and most people aren’t getting enough of it through diet.
- Lutein and zeaxanthin: Antioxidants found in the yolk that support long-term eye health. The golden color of the yolk is a direct indicator of their presence.
- Calories: Roughly 70 to 90 calories per egg, depending on size.

Behind the Egg
Most cartons on the shelf don’t tell you much about the hen behind the egg. Ours do.
Every Utopihen hen has 110 square feet of pasture, real sunlight, and daily access to open land. She’s out every morning and called back before dark, foraging through grass, brush, and shade the way hens are meant to. That’s not the industry minimum. It’s what we require on every farm we work with.

Certified Organic and Soy & Corn-Free
These eggs carry two standards, not one. USDA Organic certification, and a soy and corn-free feed system on top of it.
We launched Soy & Corn-Free eggs first. Soy and corn are in virtually every commercial egg-laying feed in the country, and removing them was already the harder path: more sourcing, more work, real relationships with the right feed mills and nutritionists to get it right. We did it because some of the people buying our eggs needed it, and because we believed the more intentional the feed system, the better.
Then we heard from people who wanted both. They didn’t want to choose between a feed free of soy and corn and a fully certified organic system. So we built it: a certified organic supplemental diet around peas, alfalfa, and other seasonally available, protein-rich ingredients, with none of the corn or soy that shows up in almost every other carton on the shelf. Every ingredient is USDA-certified organic, no GMOs, no synthetic pesticides, no artificial additives, sourced through partnerships with feed mills and nutritionists who know how to meet a hen’s needs without defaulting to the standard two crops.
The organic certification doesn’t stop at the feed bag either. The soil our hens forage on has to meet the same standard, tested for pesticides and synthetic contaminants, so the grass and plants they eat while foraging are growing in certified organic ground too. None of it is self-reported. An independent inspector visits our farms and confirms both standards are actually being met before we can use either label. Most producers skip that step. We don’t.
Small Farms. Real Farmers.
We don’t own the farms our eggs come from. We partner with small, independent family farmers in and around Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and that distinction matters more than it might sound like it should, especially for a system this particular.
Running a soy and corn-free organic operation takes more from a farmer, not less. It means sourcing ingredients most feed mills don’t stock, adjusting the diet with the seasons, and staying on top of organic certification requirements without defaulting to the two easiest crops to source. That’s not something you can do at scale with a farm too big to walk.
These are farmers who walk their pasture every day. They know their hens well enough to notice when something’s off before it becomes a real problem. That’s why we cap flock sizes on every farm we work with: more attention per hen, not less.
We’re rooted in Lancaster County, one of the longest-running agricultural regions in the country, and that’s where Utopihen started. As we’ve grown, we’ve partnered with more small family farms in and around the area, but the standard hasn’t changed. We source here because the land is right for it, and because this community makes it possible to do things the way we believe they should be done.
